Step Boomtown has well and truly emerged from its slumber and is boldly being propelled towards the next chapter cementing its place as one of the FOREMOST festival going towns in Britain.
The success of the fair is a testament to the scope and growing ambition of Boomtowns mayor: to go above and beyond the horizon; to venture out into the unknown; to promote otherworldly experiences that will tantalise the senses.
Now let me take you back to last year! Boomtown was still pretty chaotic with cars half buried in the neo-noir network of streets that were flanked by seemingly innocuous shops and flame-spouting lampposts. Occasionally you still saw the maniacal horseman prowling the streets on his fire-breathing mechanical steed.
Suffice to say Boomtown was certainly no safe haven a year ago. But safe or not, a huge rise in popularity has forced Boomtown to respond resulting in an expansive urban redevelopment headed up by its town officials, and fuelled by its new found popularity.
The town centre has been upgraded dramatically with bigger buildings, bigger bands, louder sound! The original handful of destitute streets that spider-webs its way through Boomtown has been growing more and more strands giving rise to two exciting new areas.
And then, as always, you unwittingly stumble onto the wrong side of the tracks and end up in Downtown Boomtown. Here the seedy undercarriage of the cities otherwise reputable veneer becomes apparent around every street corner and down every alleyway. This is where the creatures of the night flock.
Gangsters, prostitutes, hustlers, and even hoards of zombies can be seen lurking in the shadows waiting to prey on the hapless, unsuspecting bystander. Brothels masquerade as laundrettes, dingy bars line the streets, and nothing is what it seems.
Anyone who finds themselves in Downtown Boomtown must keep their wits about them as its streets are both menacing and unforgiving. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it comes in the form of a new circus arriving at Boomtown.
Bassline Circus has commandeered the main dance stage where it will blast out hip, cool, heavy basslines and hard beats. Rebels have already started infiltrating the outskirts of Boomtown promoting debauchery and disdain, and by the time the next annual fair kicks off expect hell to once again resurface on the streets of Boomtown.
Ground Elder Well-Known Member. Which is all well and good, but are you going to manage an adequate amount of toilets this year? I have to say best festival i went to last year by far Are you going to be looking for stewards yourself again this year?
Or using an organisation to sort them out? I'd quite like to know this. Loved it last year, shall be on the earlybird bandwagon this year. BoatieBird Well-Known Member. Will it be on the same site as last year? William of Walworth Festographer. Can't make it this year therefore Click to expand BoatieBird said:. William of Walworth said:. The Mayor said:. No it's a new even better more suited site! That's a seriously bad clash, 2 festivals appealing to the same kind of people on the same weekend.
Hi Sim, we are going to be using a new steward company this year however you will still be able to apply through our website! First acts announced! Gerry1time Did a wee in Dirac's toilet. Are they going to bother announcing stage times for any of them this year, given last year's stage times were barely even a serving suggestion?
I don't remember having too many problems with stage times last year Really though, stage management in terms of show times was beyond poor on some stages, up to an hour and a half out at times. It's the reason us lot probably won't be going back this year, it's just too much hassle standing by one area, wondering if you should wait to see if what you want to see comes on soon, or whether to move to another stage to see something else you fancy.
We tried the latter a couple of times, only to find that stage's times were well off too. It's not like you go to festivals for bands alone, sure, but there's hardly a massive greenfields or whatever at Boomtown, and if you're going to book some great names on the lineup, as you do, then it's only fair to let people know when they can actually see them.
Hi gerry, you are the first person to complain about this matter so actually the organisers have never even highlighted it as an issue - the main stage ran like clockwork, I know I was on it ;-! I think this comment is very unfair and that you have even announced it not worth attending in the future for something that wasn't even really an issue?
Fair enough man, just telling it how I saw it. The Reggae stage was late on more than one occasion from what I saw, and I'm pretty sure it was the main stage where something came on late at one point, might have been another one though.
Personally I'd just tell artists that turn up late that they've missed their slot like they do at other festivals, unless some last minute rejigging can be managed and well advertised.
